Columbia, Capital of South Carolina

Located more inland, Columbia is the capital of South Carolina.  As also the home of University of South Carolina (Gamecocks), football fans and alumni come back to this town to visit as well.

With busy malls, shopping areas and bustling businesses, many residents here enjoy having many options when they are going out.

Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center

This is a great convention center located in the downtown area. It looks very nice and well lit. It's great for hosting events and located conveniently close to a lot of great restaurants and shops.

Columbiana Centre (Mall)

Located around many other busy shopping centers and restaurants, many residents come here to shop. It's a really nice, well-kept indoor mall so it's very inviting for even bad weather.

Get ready to be stuck in traffic getting out of the mall area, especially around the holidays.

Mall address is 100 Columbiana Cir, Columbia, SC 29212

Restaurants in Columbia

Blue Marlin

Blue Marlin is our #1 pick for seafood and southern food in Columbia. The restaurants look high end but the prices are very reasonable.  Start off with some fried calamari and ordered the crab cake or salmon entree. Both come with sothern sides like collard greens or grits. Located in the historic center/downtown area of the capital, you'll find yourself surrounded by neat shops to stop by after your meal. See more detailed reviews on the Blue Marlin in our recent summary of our Columbia trip.

1200 Lincoln St., Columbia, SC 29201

Bubble Tea Cafe

Something you don't find in many South Carolina cities is a boba tea shop (boba is also known as tapioca). I am obsessed with my boba, being from California so when I found out about this shop, it was my first stop upon arriving in Columbia. Boba is these jelly balls you would find in Asian tea shops that makes it very fun to drink. See pictures below from our recent visit below. I recommend trying their specialties. This place really takes their time and making their drink is truly a craft to them.
