Disappointed with Little China Restaurant in Florence, SC

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Thursday, March 28, 2013,
Usually it takes at least 3 strikes for me to give a restaurant a bad review. This was our first time trying their Chinese food and what got us to drive to 2nd Loop for this is because we saw online that they have a very inexpensive lunch menu.

First strike took place when they gave me the wrong thing. Soup or egg roll comes as a choice for your lunch entree as it said on the menu. I told the guy who took my order for egg drop soup but he gave me an egg roll instead. Maybe he heard me wrong b...

Chutnee Indian Restaurant pleases the taste buds - Florence, SC

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Thursday, March 28, 2013, In : Food
We went to Chutnee (located on Palmetto St) for the first time yesterday and apparently they just re-opened with a new owner in March 2013. We really liked the service and they give you this free taco shell with every entree. I've always find Indian food very fascinating as a lot of spices go into play for just one dish. However, my stomach can't take Indian food well because of the acidic flavors but once in a while, it is a great treat for me. My husband and I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Lam...

Pho Vietnam suffices for the Pho crave - Florence, SC - THIS LOCATION IS NOW CLOSED

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Thursday, March 28, 2013, In : Food
2017 UPDATE: This Pho Vietnam restaurant in Florence, SC is now closed! Review below is an old post.

Pho Vietnam just opened up in Florence, SC for about 2 weeks now and we're impressed with the pho broth. We were expecting something mediocre since it's the monopoly for Vietnamese food as the only Vietnamese restaurant in Florence, SC. With only 18 food items on the menu, it is limited but suffices for the Vietnamese cravings one would have every once in a while. Located on 205B Second Loop Rd...

Southern Hospitality in Florence, SC

Posted by SCbeachtrips.com on Tuesday, March 26, 2013,
I've noticed that for every week in the last month, I've made a trip to the local post office. I like knowing that my mail has reached the post office because it saves the mailman a step and do enjoy my trips here.

Today, there was a line to get to the desk for help at the South Florence post office. When it was my turn, a lady behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said I dropped some money and handed $2 to me. I was taken my surprise and I'm glad she was so honest about it. She could've wai...

Kalmia Gardens is a great place to clear your mind (free to public and dog friendly) in Hartsville, SC

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Sunday, March 24, 2013, In : Free Things to do
Hartsville was founded by Thomas E. Hart and the Kalmia Gardens is at the former plantation owned by Thomas E. Hart. Surrounded by beautiful flowers with a creek, pond and many bridges, this is open to the public. It is also dog-friendly (with leash on at all times). We came here to visit over the weekend and were thrilled that we've found a garden where we can have some peaceful walks with our dog. Here are some pictures from our walk through the gardens.

Midnight Rooster is a great spot for coffee and food in historic Hartsville, SC

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Saturday, March 23, 2013, In : Food
We went to Midnight Rooster for the first time yesterday for lunch and it was really busy! The front entrance is very welcoming with clear signs to show you where you should go if you only want coffee and where to go for food. We immediately went straight to the back for a place to sit for food.
(front of entrance)
The only table left was a chess table, a perfect top for two. While waiting for our waiter to come, we quickly arranged the chess pieces and started playing at once. What a memorab...

Hartsville, SC is a "small town with a big heart"

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Saturday, March 23, 2013,
Hartsville is known as the small town with a big heart. I went to Hartsville, SC today for the first time to visit their downtown area and I was so happy I did. Although the town is small, it has a lot of neat restaurants and shops. The town looks very clean and you can tell that it's a great neighborhood here.

With a population of less than 5,000 people, this town offers more than you expect. With a lot of great mom and pop restaurants and great attention from nearby ...

Yogi Bear Honey Fried Chicken Review - Pretty Good but not impressed with Mashed Potatoes

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Friday, March 22, 2013,
I tried the Yogi beach Honey Fried Chicken from Hartsville, SC yesterday and was very impressed with a different type of fried chicken. As the name says it, it has honey in it. The only thing that I wish I had was a crunchier crust like Bojangles or Church's. Besides for that, I'd most likely come back for more. I love the Yogi Bear logo and it reminds me of my childhood. Branding here was successful in my book. I wasn't impressed with the mashed potatoes or the bread but the chicken made up ...

Application Process to get into the college you want - Nervewreaking!

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Thursday, March 21, 2013, In : College
In 2000, I applied to SDSU (a 4 year college) as a junior in high school and remembered how the waiting period was nerve-wreaking because I don't find out until January of the next year as a senior. I got accepted to the school (awesome) in 2001 and then proceeded to graduate with my bachelor degree in 2006.

Now, it's 2013 and I am considering going back to school so I applied to FDTC (my local college) last Monday and turned in my application to the Health Services department today for the pr...

Thai House 2 has decent food, at best with excellent service (Florence, SC)

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, In : Food
When I found out this is Thai House 2, I wonder where Thai House 1 is? We came to Thai House 2 to dine for dinner on a Friday evening. It was 5:15pm so it was early and we found parking in front. We were greeted by a man of Thai descent and were the first customers there. We also noticed that there is a sushi bar there. That is the first Thai restaurant I've ever seen with a sushi bar!

Applying to College - Florence-Darlington Technical College Experience

Posted by SCBeachTrips.com on Monday, March 18, 2013,
As I am going through another life crisis, I've decided to go back to school to learn another trade. I know I want to get into the medical field and it's just a matter of timing and getting my ducks in a row.

At first, I wanted to apply for the Sleep Technician program from Florence-Darlington Technical College but after 10 email exchanges between their office and me, they finally told me that they've cancelled the program due to lack of attendance. Hey, things do happen unexpectedly so I had...
