Secret Atom Bomb Dropped in Florence, SC

Posted by on Sunday, December 7, 2014,
One of the few fortunate things that I was able to see for myself is the site where the bomb was dropped by the air force. Not a lot of people know about it because there was an article that said that they wanted to keep it a secret. Although the site is somewhat preserved for its history, there is a chance in the future that that site could be replaced with housing. Here are the pictures I took of the site and the bulletin board that someone put there about the history.

Jennifer's Taqueria at Florence Flea Market in South Carolina is awesome

Posted by on Sunday, December 7, 2014, In : Food
The best Mexican food I've ever had in Florence, SC is at the Flea Market at a little place called Jennifer's Taqueria. Don't be deceived by its little shack. Their tacos are phenomenal with all the right fixings! Make sure you bring cash because that is all they take. My favorites are the carne asada and chicken tacos. They all come with a piece of avocado. Make sure you put some of their hot sauce on it. It's so good and authentic!

Snow Day in Florence, South Carolina - January 29, 2014

Posted by on Wednesday, January 29, 2014,
It rarely snows in Florence, SC but last night it did. The weather channel was accurate in their predictions and all the schools and most of the businesses are also closed for today. Most residents are staying inside.

Since it usually only snows once a year around here (if we're lucky), most of us really appreciate it. Of course, it makes driving a lot more dangerous but as long as we know to stay indoors before the sleet starts, we should be okay. My husband didn't work today so we played in...

Posted by on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, In : Food
Long Grain Cafe recently opened in 2013 and we are impressed with what the food has to offer. The ingredients are fresh and the place is clean. Not only that, they serve a fusion of real all American and Asian dishes. Their breakfast is truly the best in the area!

Don't forget to check out their fountain towards the back of the restaurant. Their address is 260 W Palmetto St, Florence, SC 29501

Posted by on Thursday, July 18, 2013, In : College

If you've never driven towards the end of the Florence Darlington Technical College's campus where the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SIMT) is, you'll never know how truly big the campus is. SIMT is a beautiful building with more fountains to see. It was a cloudy day when I took this picture but imagine it on a beautiful day!

Shogun Japanese Steakhouse is a great place for hot Japanese Food in Florence

Posted by on Thursday, July 18, 2013, In : Food

I've been to Miyami a couple of times and I was never impressed. I'm so glad we discovered Shogun Japanese Steakhouse because the food taste and quality of the food is so much better! It's kind of a small, underrated place. After talking to the waitress, I realized this place has been opened for many years before Miyami.

It's a Japanese restaurant but they are owned by Vietnamese owners. The flavors are amazing. Here is a picture of my plate and the experience. Hands down, Shogun Japanese Ste...

Being a lady in the South has its benefits

Posted by on Thursday, May 30, 2013,
I've lived in South Carolina for 5 months now and every one is so nice and polite here. There are so many things I love about living here.

People either call me ma'am, miss or dear. When I was in California, I was always puzzled when someone calls me miss or ma'am but now I get it. Those people were probably from the South! I love it.

Dog Park in Florence, SC (David H McLeod Park) is a great place for your dogs

Posted by on Thursday, May 30, 2013,
There is a fenced dog park at David H McLeod Park located at:
620 S Santiago Dr
Florence, SC 29501

This dog park at David H Mcleod Park has a really nice tranquil pond. Just a slight hover over the water and you'll see dozens of fishes. They don't have a water fountain but my dog really likes to drink out of the pond water. He's been there 3 times now and hasn't had a stomachache from it. (see pictures below)

Visitors aren't allowed to fish here anymore so that's great news for the dogs. Another ...

Spring in South Carolina means the garden is ready

Spring in South Carolina is so pretty. Everything is so green and the weather is nice. We have a small garden in our backyard with green (spring onions) and turnip. Our green onions are so big and ready to eat. Having a garden is so rewarding!

Bangkok House is a great restaurant in Myrtle Beach

Posted by on Friday, April 5, 2013, In : Myrtle Beach
We were visiting Myrtle Beach for a day and wanted good Thai food in the area. We dined at Bangkok House that is located  at: 318 N Kings Hwy Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. We were there right when it opened at 11AM, a perfect time for their lunch specials. They were very affordable and there was nothing over 7 dollars on the lunch special menu, which includes your choice of entree, spring roll and soup! The owners are very nice and personable. We will come back again when we visit Myrtle Beach.

Percy & Willie's Food & Spirits is the best steak house in Florence, SC

Posted by on Friday, April 5, 2013, In : Food
We went to Percy & Willie's for the first time for steak and it was a taste bud pleaser! The rib eye that my husband ordered was the juiciest piece of steak I've ever had! I ordered the today's special which included a steak, a side and a salad for 18.99. See picture below. It's near the mall and you'll see a lot of business workers coming here at lunch or for dinner. They also have a bar area for those into spirits. We will come back again.
Address is: 2401 David H McLeod Boulevard, Florence...

Pho Vietnam suffices for the Pho crave - Florence, SC - THIS LOCATION IS NOW CLOSED

Posted by on Thursday, March 28, 2013, In : Food
2017 UPDATE: This Pho Vietnam restaurant in Florence, SC is now closed! Review below is an old post.

Pho Vietnam just opened up in Florence, SC for about 2 weeks now and we're impressed with the pho broth. We were expecting something mediocre since it's the monopoly for Vietnamese food as the only Vietnamese restaurant in Florence, SC. With only 18 food items on the menu, it is limited but suffices for the Vietnamese cravings one would have every once in a while. Located on 205B Second Loop Rd...

Southern Hospitality in Florence, SC

Posted by on Tuesday, March 26, 2013,
I've noticed that for every week in the last month, I've made a trip to the local post office. I like knowing that my mail has reached the post office because it saves the mailman a step and do enjoy my trips here.

Today, there was a line to get to the desk for help at the South Florence post office. When it was my turn, a lady behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said I dropped some money and handed $2 to me. I was taken my surprise and I'm glad she was so honest about it. She could've wai...

Kalmia Gardens is a great place to clear your mind (free to public and dog friendly) in Hartsville, SC

Posted by on Sunday, March 24, 2013, In : Free Things to do
Hartsville was founded by Thomas E. Hart and the Kalmia Gardens is at the former plantation owned by Thomas E. Hart. Surrounded by beautiful flowers with a creek, pond and many bridges, this is open to the public. It is also dog-friendly (with leash on at all times). We came here to visit over the weekend and were thrilled that we've found a garden where we can have some peaceful walks with our dog. Here are some pictures from our walk through the gardens.

Midnight Rooster is a great spot for coffee and food in historic Hartsville, SC

Posted by on Saturday, March 23, 2013, In : Food
We went to Midnight Rooster for the first time yesterday for lunch and it was really busy! The front entrance is very welcoming with clear signs to show you where you should go if you only want coffee and where to go for food. We immediately went straight to the back for a place to sit for food.
(front of entrance)
The only table left was a chess table, a perfect top for two. While waiting for our waiter to come, we quickly arranged the chess pieces and started playing at once. What a memorab...

Thai House 2 has decent food, at best with excellent service (Florence, SC)

Posted by on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, In : Food
When I found out this is Thai House 2, I wonder where Thai House 1 is? We came to Thai House 2 to dine for dinner on a Friday evening. It was 5:15pm so it was early and we found parking in front. We were greeted by a man of Thai descent and were the first customers there. We also noticed that there is a sushi bar there. That is the first Thai restaurant I've ever seen with a sushi bar!

We ordered the shrimp spring rolls for our appetizer, green curry with beef and laab sa...

Red Bone Alley is the best restaurant in Florence, SC

Posted by on Thursday, February 28, 2013,
I love this place. Don't let the outside fool you. It's not a bowling alley. It's a magical restaurant with an inside town replica full of buildings and fascinating interior deigns. The food is great and romantic. There is also a kid's area where you can go to a station ice cream truck to get free ice cream. Yes, all of this is really a restaurant! It's amazing and my first choice for great dining. There is also a bar area in front as well. Make reservations if you're coming with a big ...

When your neighbor is shooting squirrels across the street

Posted by on Wednesday, February 27, 2013,
As I was updating some pictures on this website, I kept hearing gun shot noises outside. I was thinking it was from a far distance. My dog is getting really scared and comes to the office to find me. I look out the window and it's our neighbor shooting at squirrels on a tree right across the street. I was very appalled because I never see this in San Diego. This is just one more thing I'll need to get used to.

Southend Brewery & Restaurant is a must go in Charleston, SC

Posted by on Tuesday, February 26, 2013,
We went to the Southend Brewery & Restaurant in Charleston for lunch and we were really impressed with the decor inside. It was very spacious and multistory. It's a great place to have large parties or special celebrations with a lover. They also have a great selection of beer and they boldly display their breweries.

It's fascinating. Make sure you look down when you're on the second story. It's a great view of patrons having a great meal and a large staff. They also have elevators here so ...

Even on a rainy day, Charleston is still beautiful.

Posted by on Tuesday, February 26, 2013,
We visited Charleston last weekend and it was my first time there. My husband lived there for two years because of Nuke School. It definitely is obvious that it's the oldest city in the US but it's beautiful, even on a rainy or cloudy day. It rained for most of the weekend when we were there in February. The town is busy at night on weekends and many come to the Social Bar for their bachelorette parties when we visited.

Picture above is view of the ocean. Picture below is of the main street ...
